Whip up some whimsical birthday cards with these three easy card designs today! To get started, you’ll need stamps, ink, paper and the Stampin’ Up! Stitched with Whimsy Dies. Create one, two, or all three!
The Stitched with Whimsy Dies feature cute decorative stitching with irregular edges. Unlike most dies, they do not cut out a shape. Instead, they create a frame around a focal point, background, or sentiment. This die set includes 6 dies, both square and rectangular. The largest die is 5-1/2″ x 4-1/16″. So they’re perfect for framing elements on scrapbook pages, as well as on handmade cards and other projects.
Three Whimsical Birthday Cards
Today we’ll be looking at three birthday cards featuring the Stitched With Whimsy Dies. The smaller dies are great for creating a frame around a sentiment.
Designing for a Square Sentiment
First, showcase a square greeting with one of the three square dies shown above. Live Life in Full Bloom is a great option, from the Flowering Rain Boots stamp set. The gorgeous colorful flowered paper is a Sale-a-Bration product called Daffodil Afternoon. It coordinates with the Daffodil Daydream Bundle in the 2022 January-June Mini Catalog. Stamp the swirly design from this set in Versamark ink and heat emboss it for added detail.
During Sale-a-Bration, which ends February 28, 2022, you can maximize your crafting dollars by choosing a free item every time you spend $50 (USD) or more on catalog products. So, for instance, if you purchase the Stitched With Whimsy Dies ($29 USD) or the Flowering Rain Boots Bundle ($49.50 USD) and some cardstock or embellishments, you’ll qualify for a free item. The Daffodil Afternoon paper is just one option! See all the other options available by visiting the Sale-a-Bration page in my store.

A Whimsical Birthday Card with a Rectangular Greeting
Our second card is another simple design. This time, use a 4″ x 4″ square of pretty paper on the left. Then cut a 2″ x 4-1/2″ piece of coordinating paper. Mat it with Basic Black cardstock, 2-1/8″ x 4-5/8″ so that you have a very thin black border. Stamp a greeting on white cardstock and use the smallest rectangular die to frame it.

Frame a Whole Layer for Design 3
With the varying die sizes, you’re not limited to just framing the sentiment. But when you use the larger dies, you may wish to choose the size of your layer first. Next, add the frame. And finally, stamp the greeting and decorations, and finish off with a couple of rhinestones.

I love to mix new products with older ones! Look through your supplies for some paper to use with these three designs. Then consider purchasing the Stitched With Whimsy Dies to uniquely frame your card elements. Be sure to maximize your crafting dollars by taking advantage of Sale-a-Bration freebies too!
